Carbon Neutral Car
There are many cost effective ways that we can reduce carbon emissions from our vehicle. More importantly, the longevity of this planet depends on our ability to adapt and make changes to our way of life with the threat of global warming. So how can we transform our vehicle into a carbon neutral car? Development of alternate fuels and electric cars will inevitably reduce carbon emissions however it is up to us to ensure our current vehicles are not creating excessive pollutants. So how can you save money on fuel and save money on your car while helping the environment at the same time?
LPG conversions
LPG stands for Liquefied Petroleum Gas and is commonly known as Auto gas for its use in motor vehicles. When used on a combustion engine LPG will typically produce about 15% less green house emissions, compared to Petrol driven cars, and by switching from a diesel engine to an LPG equivalent, emissions would be cut by over 90%. Burning Auto gas creates significantly less carbon dioxide (CO2) than unleaded petrol. CO2 is the most important of the greenhouse gases, which causes the most damage to our environment. By using LPG Auto gas instead of petrol, emissions can be as much as 80% cleaner. LPG is substantially cheaper than petrol and can therefore help drivers who have converted their vehicle save money on fuel.
Hybrid vehicles
Many manufacturers have addressed the worlds issue of pollution and have set out to reduce carbon emissions by creating vehicles that use both electric and combustion type engines.
Toyota’s Prius is a prime example of a carbon neutral car that intelligently switches from gasoline to battery power. The further development of efficient batteries and electric components will see huge development in this area at a reasonable price to consumers.
Vehicle maintenance and servicing
By ensuring your car servicing is completed at the specified intervals we can guarantee that our combustion engine is running as efficient as possible therefore we reduce carbon emissions emitted from our vehicles. You can also save money on fuel by ensuring that your engine is running at its optimum.
Quality fuels/Ethanol
A combustion engine will run more efficiently by simply using a premium type of unleaded fuel. Higher octane rated petrol (commonly known as premium fuels) can cost more on the initial fill-up of your vehicle but will reduce fuel consumption as it burns more efficiently than a lower octane rated fuel. Something you may or may not have heard of is the use of ethanol blended fuels. Ethanol blended with petrol burns cleaner and reduces our dependence on foreign crude oil.
Ethanol is produced in Australia and can be made from corn or sugar cane making it an extremely ozone friendly source of fuel to be consumed in our vehicles. At present we have ethanol blended fuels available at service stations across Australia.
Carbon Neutral Car
In summary we can all do our bit to ensure we reduce carbon emissions. By following your car servicing guide to ensure your vehicle runs at it’s optimum and possibly using alternate fuels and save money on your car.
